Remembrance Day Exhibition in aid of St Mary’s Church

The Poppy Project

We are happy to say that we are driving forward with the project to make as many poppies as possible for the Remembrance Day Exhibition (The Poppy Project).

The plan is to have a cascade/drape/display of poppies on or around the church (the exact location of the cascade will depend on how many we produce) as a salute to all those who have given their lives in service of our country, during times of conflict or war.

How to Get Involved

Join the crochet crew and natty knitters.

Our first meeting is Wednesday, 19 January 2022, at the OHH @ 7pm.

The plan is to pair up experienced knitters and crochet-makers with those less experienced, for support and encouragement.

The meetings aim to be an opportunity to work creatively together, to answer any questions you have, as well as to socialise.

All wool will be provided, but if you have your own that is fine. You will need to supply (or borrow) your own crochet/knitting needles.

Patterns

Note: UK crochet stitches differ from the US, so if using a US pattern, use US stitches.

It is up to you whether you are on the crochet crew, or with the natty knitters. The poppies certainly don’t have to be all the same. The more diverse the better.

A selection of videos follows (and more are available by searching YouTube), with patterns from very easy to more complex. Your choice may depend on your level of skill and need for a challenge, but as the finished overall effect is designed to display quantity rather than complexity, I know which I’d choose.
